I still like the idea of Chalice, setting it at 2 will send GW aggro packing, and at 0 it's pretty nasty against everyone else. If you can barely pay the Evoke cost, it hits their stuff for (nominally) one mana if you have more mana it's gravy. Ingot Chewer is actually really good in the sideboard here against MUD. Necro seems like it would just be a powerhouse. The Bloodghasts in Miss Bun's list are also pretty interesting. Pyromancer is an obviously strong addition, and Winds of Change is very cute. Some players also discussed 2-3 Blood Moon maindeck to have 6-7 Moons rather than just 4 Magus. There was some debate about putting in Mox Monkey, and I'm pretty sure in the current meta, REB should be sideboard.

This is one of the old lists that ran Chains. PyroTherapy is fantastic, I'm just not sure if you need a way to close out games quicker, or possibly put more intense, constant pressure on. That list looks ok, but I feel like there's not a lot of pressure outside Pyro. A Grisel activation would actually be pretty brutal under Chains. That's a good point, I had forgotten that they run fewer rituals. It's weak or useless in some matchups, and straight up suicide in others (helloooooo Dredge), so you really need to plan carefully how you're attacking the meta with it. It hits all the best stuff (Jace, Recall, Brainstorm, etc.), but it doesn't win you the game. I think Chains needs much more build around than just Confidant.

Plus any Oath deck probably has another Oath sideboard, at the very least GG Oath is only 3 slots and ignores Chains completely. Oh, I have to discard all these cards I'm drawing? Darn, guess I'll only get 20 storm instead of 40. I would say that should probably be edited to "Best Reasonably Legal card in Magic", since there is a better Ancestral RecallĪlso, Chains is actually terrible against Grisel Oath builds, because they all run YawgWin and Past in Flames and (usually) another PiF in the board to Wish for.

I would never, never suggest running a full 4x since it does have its weaknesses and is a dead card against many decks such as MUD-esque archetypes and dredge, but to have it in a deck is easy and totally worthwhile. Not to mention that it's one of the few hard counters to Oath decks (Griselbrand).

Just being able to shut down Ancestral Recall, nevermind Jace or Brainstorm (+co), is totally worth it. In the "Top 50 Magic Cards" thread or whatever it's called, I listed Ancestral Recall as the best card in Magic, and I wasn't joking.

This is why it's typically associated with B/R shells since the colors inherently don't "draw" cards. This promise has had an interesting effect on the secondary market for card which are on this list, so it is important to understand what the reserved list is, and which cards are on this list. You don't need anything to support Chains of Mephistopheles beyond not relying on draw yourself. The Reserved List is a unique promise made by Wizards of the Coast to never reprint functionally identical copies of a select number of cards. Step 2: Play a game with Chains of Mephistopheles in your deck. Step 1.5: Include Dark Confidant as well because it's a funny workaround and an overall great card. Step 1: Include Chains of Mephistopheles in a deck.
